Can marketing save this car?

Mercedes-Benz will begin a new marketing campaign next week to try and jump-start (pun intended) the Smart brand here in the United States. Sales of Smart cars have been lackluster since they were first brought over in 2007. Originally intended to capitalize on soaring gas prices, we suspect what’s been holding the sales back has nothing to do with TV spots. The car has always had a wheezy engine paired with what is widely regarded as Satan’s own automatic transmission. Can fancy directing and photoshop distract potential buyers from these pitfalls? Time will tell…
