The Most Honest Car Ad I Have Ever Seen

Posted on 19 October 2011 by Adam Kaslikowski

Below you will find an ad with the kind of honesty that could never come from corporate PR personnel. Instead, we have to leave it up to the local dealers to come up with real wit and humor in an effort to move some metal. While I might disagree with the later half of the ad saying the car is now beautiful and capable, at the end of the day it is still an advertisement. Keep reading to see for yourself:

Chevy Colorado Coming to U.S.

Posted on 10 October 2011 by Adam Kaslikowski

General Motors has just confirmed that their new midsized pickup the Colorado will be sold in America. This comes as both Ford and Dodge have announced they will not be producing any midsized trucks in the coming years. Given this, the Colorado might be able to capture a majority of the market just do to lack of competition. Of course, the other manufacturers pulled their trucks out for a reason (most American truck buyers purchase full sized pickups) so only time will tell.

The Colorado will initially launch in Thailand (the world’s biggest market for midsized trucks) this month, followed by a staggered rollout throughout the rest of the globe. “The new Chevrolet Colorado is generating a lot of excitement as we begin its launch in Thailand,” said Chris Perry, vice president, global marketing and strategy for Chevrolet. “We think the design, capability and fuel efficiency of the new Colorado will make it attractive to U.S. customers.”

In Thailand, the model lineup will include 2WD and 4WD regular, extended-cab and crew cab variants. Gasoline and diesel engines will be available, including new 2.5L and 2.8L turbo diesel engines. What combinition of these features will reach western shores remains to be seen. Chevy’s development team will be tweaking the Colorado for American tastes and driving habits.

GM To Push Sonic Off Bridge, then Plane

Posted on 05 October 2011 by Adam Kaslikowski

Z-Spec Sonic

General Motors plans on doing some “XTREME!!!” marking to pull in the “young hep kids” and persuade them to exchange their hard-earned “clams” for the new Chevy Sonic. How you they plan on getting through to today’s overstimulated youth? Simple, the Sonic is going to go bungee jumping and sky diving. Obvious really. GM is launching this appeal to younger U.S. buyers through an advertising campaign launching on October 15. GM will have the Sonic bungee jump from a 10-story structure in Long Beach, California. Consumers will also be able to view video clips of the Sonic sky diving in Arizona, filmed using 27 cameras both inside and outside the car, and play an online, social game that will give away 10 Sonics. Kids play games of their MyFace pages right?

The ad campaign — dubbed “Let’s Do This” — will be skewed toward a digital component. Ford is currently credited with leading the way among U.S. automakers in marketing its models using social media, and GM is looking to get a piece of their action in this segment. The campaign will revolve around letsdothis.com (not currently live) and will be an exclusively digital campaign for the first three months. The new Sonic is part of GM’s effort to connect with buyers ages 18 to 34 who may not have the negative view of GM that older consumers might, said Kevin Mayer, director of Chevy advertising. Prices for the subcompact start at $14,495. Starting early next year, more traditional TV ads will air. I just hope one of the ads puts a leather jacket on the car and has it jump a shark.

2011 Chevy Volt – Is This the Future?

Posted on 14 September 2011 by Adam Kaslikowski

Sometimes the future doesn’t so much explode onto the scene as much as it silently creeps into our reality. Quiet evolution has a way of consistently trumping boisterous revolutions. Internal combustion engines have progressed and changed constantly since their introduction into the automobile, and now with the Chevy Volt they have been downsized to a supporting player to the “so-hot-right-now” electric motor. Is the Volt part of this progress of the automobile or a hybrid distraction? Continue reading to find out…
